We welcome comments and have provided a form at the bottom of this page for your feedback.

Feedback is helpful to us as it helps us plan the way forward and we would ask that if you have any complaints you speak to us directly. Of course, if you have nice things to say – please feel free to leave a comment on either Trip Advisor  or Scottish Independent Hostels.

Please note some testimonials are for our larger property, Nethy House, which was sold in January 2016 when we moved many of the quirky items across to the Station and have built in simple bar facilities.

Really great place to stay, unique and charming. The hosts were also great, very warm and funny.
We planned a stag party with lots of excursions and Richard and Patricia went beyond the call of duty to help us with our arrangements and made sure we had the best possible time. There were lots of games and activities to keep us occupied, plenty to drink; Richard organised for us to buy a keg of local beer. It was a really perfect experience.

I will definitely consider returning in the future with some friends.

14 of our members had a 5 day stay in May 2017. We had a great time and the station was an ideal central location for accessing both the local area and Cairngorm, the N and E coast of Moray and also the W coast by Little Loch Broom. We saw just over 140 species. Thanks to Richard and Patricia for this excellent facility. This link will take you to an album of photos [birds & scenery] – sorry it’s a bit long – it’s a public shared album on my FB. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10211585061694813.1073741854.1613551544&type=1&l=6b79546afa

Longniddry Explorer Scouts

Another generation of Scouts from Longniddry introduced to the delights of Nethy Station and its many attractions – there really is no other bunkhouse we’ve found to match it. Richard & Patricia provided a warm welcome as we knew they would – it was as if we’d never been away.

Richard’s guided walk was excellent and they couldn’t have done more to make us welcome – it was great to catch up and see both R & P still going as strong as ever.

What a great place to visit and stay.

Avanti Muchachos!

A great station!

We were a Swiss wedding party staying in the bunkhouse while attending a wedding celebration of a close friend of ours on Aultmore Estate. Richard and Patricia made us feel very welcome, gave us hiking advice and we always felt like they would have been there for us in any case. Also, the quirky character of Nethy Station really suited us. Thanks, you two! Too bad, you never saw us wearing the hats, we were making an effort!

Calum Macintyre AUZBS

Richard and Patricia are brilliant, witty and generous and went above and beyond what we expected when organising our stay. Their hostel – Nethy Station – was perfect for us. It was well equipped, in a great location and had an interesting layout which we all loved. We can’t thank Richard and Patricia enough and we can’t wait to stay again. Aberdeen University Zoology and Biological Sciences Society

Z&R Taekwon-Do School

May 2014 was our second visit and we were not disappointed. Richard and Patricia go out of their way to make us feel welcome. As a Taekwondo group we have encountered very negative responses as from previous venues, however this is absolutely not the case here. A great venue in a great setting and we will be visiting for many more years to come. Thank you.

Olly's Stag

We booked out Nethy Station for 2 nights for stag do accommodation and it was just what we were looking for! Cheap and basic (but also quirky and different) accommodation was just what we needed to keep costs down and allowed us spend the money on activities and drinks instead. We ordered a keg from the Cairngorm Brewery to drink while we were there and that provided us with loads to drink over the weekend. It’s also relatively close to Aviemore, so you can get a large taxi to take your group there for around £20. Richard and Patricia were both really helpful while booking and helped provide us with information while we were there (for example, takeaways or taxis). You’re only charged for the number of people that are staying (minimum 10) and we were able to adjust the numbers without being penalised, which is great when you have to get a group of people to actually pay you money and confirm they want to come. 🙂 Thanks!

I had the pleasure of organising a stag doo as the best man, we settled on nethy bridge and stayed at the converted railway station! We had a fantastic time and our hostesess with the mostess Richard! looked after us our whole time there, the accomdation is basic but thats exaclty what we wanted and it was great to have the place to ourselves. Plenty washing facillites and cooking facillites and great to have the big benches in the kitchen, we will always be grateful to Richard for helping us apologise to he neighbours for “borrowing” their wood! I will never forget Richards explanation of the love shack and proceeded to show its strong by shaking it!! He also organised our taxis into aviemore, a indian buffett, highland games and just in general looked after us when we needed it! Highly recommned it and we will be back one day!

Dear Richard and Patricia – thank you both. A superb bunkhouse for a bonkers birthday bash with good hosting from your side and splendid leadership from Mjr Eccles on the footie field highland games and a great pleasure to have your good evening company in the bar. Nethy House is a great leveller in the best sense – everybody is in it together and nobody whinges – a big party with many preferences but with Nethy you get a great quality basic accommodation offer where all things work and are provided for and the value is excellent. The delivery curry from Grantown was great, the Cairngorm 80 pint keg was immense and our own company was enriched by R and P’s great hosting. All of our party wanted to make plans to return. Somebody else must be 50 next year!!

Adventura Scotland

Excellent facility with great hosts. We spent a week there with Canongate Primary from St Andrews and will definitely use again as it was such a positive experience. Thank you.

Stan Intihar

Love this place. have stayed twice in the railway station and have fond memories. it’s got the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern (but basic) amenities, like showers! will definitely stay here again.

Jenny's Henny!

Had a fantasitc weekend in Nethy Bridge. The bunkhouse was just what we required to have all the girls together for the hen weekend. The accommodation was basic but exactly what was needed. We done activities with Craggan outdoors which was super fun. We had a meal at the Nethy Bridge hotel – the food was ok but service could have been better. great weekend had by all and would definately go again!

28th Scouts Old Boys

Another great weekend at Nethy – celebrating our 10th Aniversary of the ‘old boys’ weekends back at Nethy again. As ever the warm and friendly welcome from Richard was great and it was nice to toast the weekend with a wee dram. As usual folk were up until the wee small hours playing pool and making good use of the keg of beer – but then again that’s the whole point! Looking forward to our next visit already.

Scottish Network HUB camp 2012

Another great weekend at Nethybridge. The facilites were excellent as always and the bar was well used. Archery in the park and bushcraft by the river ran in conjunction with winter skills, mountain biking and man vs food. Sunday massages and pamper sessions were alsoi a great success. See you again soon. Thanks as always Dougie

Insch Primay Staff

Fab weekend in Nethy Bridge. Hope the recycling facilities cope with our empty bottles! Love the triple bunks. Must return with the kids.

Army U23 Hockey Team

We would like to thank both Richard and Trish for all the assistance that theygave to make our tour a great success, the flexibility of the catering arrangements and the opportunity to run our own bar only added to the enjoyment, hence our reason for booking again for the same time next year. Trish, many thanks for the emergency delivery of the kit we forgot to take to our last match, very much appreciated and saved us alot of embarrassment. See you both soon, Regards Peter

Once again the Nethy Station Bunkhouse provided the perfect resting place for our weary WolfTrek participants! Perfect location to access Abernethy Forest and a mere hop skip and a jump for our marshals from Aviemore who came to stay on Sunday night. Highly recommended for groups 🙂

Well another stag up at Nethy is over with and we are sorry to leave! All the boys are raving about the accomodation and general setup. You are the perfect host and your relaxed nature put us all at ease although the numerous beers helped as well!! Hopefully we will be back in the future. Thank you so much again!

Elaine Raguenez,Lois Morel + group of 18 students

We,a French group stayed in Nethy House for 3 nights at the beginning of June 2011 and had a wonderful stay. The accommodation is very comfortable, with ample space for larger groups. The public games room complete with snooker table and darts is cosy and welcoming, and the dining room spacious and practical for groups. We had full board and the food was delicious, excellent value for money – our host ,Richard ,charming and a real asset as regards information about the area and practical advice. On our last evening,he organised a surprise Scottish evening, much appreciated by the French students and teachers-it really contributed to our visit of the country. The scenery around Nethy Bridge is beautiful and we enjoyed a very interesting visit of the Glenlivet Estate, the Osprey Hide and had a very instructive guided walk by Desmond from the RSPB in Abernety Forest. All of these visits were organised ahead of our visit by Richard to whom I am very grateful.Everything was just perfect.Thank you.

We had such a brilliant weekend staying at the Bunkhouses. Richard and Patricia were great and really looked after us. The facility was perfect for our group which was my sister’s hen weekend so you can imagine what it was like for 13 girls all getting ready at the same time but there was more than enough room, plug sockets and mirrors 🙂 we were made to feel really welcome and Richard and Patricia were always on the other end of the phone if we needed them or just up the road. I’d definitely recommend the bunkhouses to others, it really helped make our weekend!!!

A perfect setting for a reunion/birthday weekend for a mixed group in the Cairngorms! We stayed in the old station and couldn’t really have asked for better, we just needed a base really as we were out and about all day both days but it was a great place to come back to in the evenings, we enjoyed bbq-ing on the old platform in the glorious Scottish weather and were made to feel extremely welcome by our hosts! Especially Richard who joined us for a drink in the evening and even gifted a lovely bottle of bubbly for the birthday girl! All in all the place was brilliant basic accomodation for a group of ~15 and we were made to feel exceptionally welcome. Couldn’t have asked for better, and would recommend for people looking for a similar experience.

Warwick University Canoe Club

Our group stayed at Nethy Station bunkhouse during Easter 2010 and 2011. Both visits have been fantastic and we could not have asked for anymore. As the trip leader I would most certainly recommend this accommodation. The owners were incredibly friendly and it was a pleasure to stay. Thank-you to both Richard and Patricia for a pleasant and thoroughly enjoyed Canoe Tour! 10/10!

Freideriki G

We had soooo much fun in that nice litte hostel! It is perfect for small or big groups as there is plenty of space for activities indoors and outdoors. Also, Richard and Patricia were very friendly 🙂 I would defo recommend this to you!

Cammie Stag Do

Patricia and Richard were absolutely fantastic – they couldn’t have been more accommodating to a stag do – they were extremely helpful in assuring that our weekend went to plan and were accommodating when we needed to get in early to refrigerate all our refreshments. I can speak on behalf of the tour group in saying that it was one of the most enjoyable weekends we have ever had. The bunkhouse is in such a great location and has all the space and equipment you require for a quality break in Scotland. Thank you both for making it such a memorable break.

Sheffield Winter Climbers

Thanks for a great stay, the station was great for our group’s holiday ice climbing in the Cairngorms: Excellent catering facilities, drying room, easy clean furnishings, heating and internet, made us all feel welcome. We were especially impressed with the booking policy with its flexibility on numbers (we had some fickle people, refusing to commit and/or changing their minds). We’d recommend the station to muddy smelly groups of comfort loving outdoorsy types, and we’ll stay again. See you next winter. PS: loved the mini-bar.

Kendal Mountaineering Services.

We used Nethy Bunkhoues for one of our winter courses in Feb 2010 staying in Nethy Station. It was an ideal place to run a medium sized group from and was comfortable enough for what you would expect from budget accommodation. The beer tap and the arrangement with the Cairngorm Brewery meant our clients were able to enjoy quality beer with each meal – where else will you find that in a bunkhouse on Speyside?? The proprietors – Richard & Patricia are extremely friendly, helpful and flexible and they will do their utmost to accommodate your needs. If we could give out gold stars Nethy Bunkhouses would certainly get 100!! Regrettably this year we could not get enough clients to come back but we will be looking to work with Richard & Patrica and come back to stay at Nethy Bunkhouses. In the future. Thank you, Iain Gallagher.

Luke Devall

When looking for a place to stay with 60 university kayakers most places shy away but not nethy bunkhouse! Could not of asked for a better place to stay. Everything you could ever need and more, never mind your own bar (important for us students). The fire alarm also comes in very handy for getting 60 hungover students out there beds. Very clean and comfortable making the stay all the better. A fantastic place to stay accompanied by very considerate owners! Cant wait for next year….

Carys Petrie

I work for a charity called WildHearts which runs a large endurance event called the WolfTrek – a 45 mile run or walk from Forres all the way to Cairngorm Mountain. We have been delighted to use Nethy Station as the main ‘Rest Stop’ for our participants for the last 3 years – its in a perfect location right off the Speyside Way and just a minutes stroll into the village. There’s great access too to Abernethy Forest and the paths around the river, which form the final section of our route. The kitchen facilities are brilliant – we use them right through the night to prepare over 200 rounds of soup and snacks for our weary participants and the dorms are great for enabling marshals and volunteers to get some rest. We will definitely be back again in 2011!

Brigitte Arthur

This time Nethy House was home to a family celebration and overflowing with relatives and friends, so many that we were forced to opt for the B&B right across the road – Tigh na Drochaid which we found extremely comfortable and well appointed and our hosts Sarina and Gilbert delightful. Only recently opened but so conveniently placed. HIghly recommended if the bunkhouse overfloweth.

Joady MacRae

Once again we had a fantastic trip away & the accommodation was absolutely spot on…. we’ll definitely be back again. If you could organise the same weather & the same snow cover & conditions the next time we’d be delighted. Thanks

Alasdair McLeod

Thanks for a great weekend! The accommodation was exactly what we needed and the whole group had a very enjoyable time. I’m sure the saturday night will be remembered for a long time. Even the heavy snow didn’t dampen spirits it just added to the occasion. And the drying room was brilliant, many people would have had an uncomfortable second day in wet clothes if it wasnt there. Again thanks for a great weekend, and our group willl hopefully be coming back soon!

Angela Lambie

Had an amazing hen weekend. The accommodation was brilliant, very clean and loved the surroundings. Wil definitely be back again.

Peter Rosser

What can i say about Nethy Station, we had 2 groups booked in this year and have already booked for next year but with double the numbers, great place to stay, great scenary even when it rains, great company and excellent food, Trish and Richard are great hosts who are both committed to thier guest and ensuring that they get out what they put in to all activities. Richard, sorry for insisting that you joined the walk up Cairn Gorm, hope you have recovered and got over the cold you got. See you both soon and thank you from us all for a truely memorable trip. Peter

Sarah Connelly

Brilliant place to stayfor a Hen weekend with a difference! We had lots of fun outdoors in the area and a great time chilling out inside at night with some bubbly! very clean ans spacious for a small group and excellent value for money!

Thank you so much. We had a fantastic stay. You made everything so easy for us and we were able to just get on with enjoying the festival. The accommodation was fascinating and really good value. Will definately be back in the future!

We all enjoyed the weekend SO much, the place was perfect, and as for the cleaning, we just felt we should leave it how we found it! I have attached a few pictures of us at Nethy Station, and one from Landmark (which can definately be enjoyed by the over 20s by the way!!). Thanks again for making my birthday one to remember, hopefully we will be back, will definately keep Nethy in mind for any other gatherings or to recommend to others!

Hi Richard and Patricia, we returned safely to Bonn today at 2 p.m. Everybody was very, very satisfied and happy with their stay at Nethy House. I, Hartmut and they, thank you very much again for your hospitality and for getting involved so wholeheartedly into the needs and wishes of the young people and their teachers. You are doing a great job , honestly. Hope to see you again soon. Take care and bye for now.

Everybody had a great time staying at the bunkhouses, and they definately contributed to us having a fantastic wedding! We are much obliged for your efforts in helping us get everything sorted out at the bunkhouses and we look forward to returning in the not too distant future. We wish you all the best with your plans for a new bunkhouse and hope to catch up with you again next time we visit. Please pass on my regards to Patricia also. Thanks again

We as a group have always made a point of going somewhere new every year in our tours of Scotland, which is how we ended coming to you – this time as a first, everyone unanimously wanted to go back to Nethy Bridge – and no small part of that wish to return is down to the way you run the place yourselves, not just the bricks and mortar. Und dennoch; ein schlecte Eigenschaft ist noch kein schlecte Mensch. Ein schlecte Tag ist noch kein schlectes Leben. We want to thank you for our great holiday we spent in your beautiful country. With your aid we were able to explore the Highlands better than we expected – especially during the 2 day mountain hike. Thanks you and best wishes to you and your family.

Dear Guestbook, we’ve had a fantastic time in the comfortable Nethy House. We enjoyed sleeping on ‘shelves’ and eating Patricia’s delicious meals. We loved the tours through the Highlands and its impressive landscape. These were completed by the funny comments of our lovely ‘guide’ Richard. Each day ended up in cosy get-togethers. The interesting bar offered a lot of entertainment. As you can see we had a great stay but we were a little bit sad that we didn’t meet Nessie. We thank our hosts for making this class-trip that wonderful!

We think that it’s just impressive that you’ve been so motivated to make our time at Nethy House very, very nice – it’s not very often that you find owners of houses who are really interested in the groups and their time – we think you were great and we’ll come back again & again.
