1 How Do People Contact You When in Nethy Bridge
The number for Nethy House pay-phone is +44 (0)1479 821 304 & Nethy Station is +44 (0)1479 821 117. Urgent messages may be left at the Eccles' own office number, which is not on the premises and we will endeavour to get the message passed on as soon as possible.
2 What You May Wish To Bring With You
Some customers have asked what we have in the kitchen. Instead of a normal inventory I have some photos on this page- they are not very exciting - but hey! What did you expect! Please remember though that I cannot gurarantee that it will all look exactly like this as things come and go with time!

3 Where Do You Buy Food?
Cash & carry items may be purchased by us and wait for your arrival if you send a list one week before your arrival. We will charge a small amount for this service to cover time and transport.
Meat can be obtained from the butcher next door - Mr Mustard + 44 (0) 1479-821 245 E-mail:mustard@totalise.co.uk
Milk & bread may be ordered from the local grocery shop - Mr Young + 44 (0) 1479-821 217 E-mail: nethystore@aol.com
All groceries may also be purchased from Tescos in Aviemore, 11 miles away. However, it must be noted that it is possible that they may have run out of basic items. There are 3 superstores in Inverness. The best thing is to order your groceries online and they can be delivered directly to Nethy House. Just click here
(A note for German groups.... we hate to see groups arrive with lots of expensive bottled water and then to have no money left for trips! The water here tastes so good and it makes us cry to see groups buy bottled water - what a waste of money! really it is very safe and comes from a nearby Loch - filtered of course! The environmental impact of plastic bottles is appalling - it takes 7 litres of water to produce one plastic bottle, and then think about the transport and waste issues!
Save space on the bus too, as British white sliced bread, is not the same as your toast bread - it has added vitamins in it and is available at about 0.37 pence for 800gram*! Fresh Milk is only 0.pence per litre *2008 prices)
4 What Are The House Rules?
Linen: We provide a duvet & pillow for each bed and linen must be used with these, failure will result in a £10 cleaning charge! Sorry! A Linen Pack is available (see price list), but it does add to the cost, especially of short stays. Alternatively, group members should bring a pillowcase and towels and either 1) a sheet and duvet cover, or 2) a sleeping bag.
Smoking: These are old buildings, with lathe & plaster (holz u gips) walls and a lot of timber within it's structure, and we must stress that smoking is prohibited throughout the house.
Food: To avoid damp, vermin & damage, No food or drink should be taken into bedrooms, kettles, toast makers, and similar items, may only be used in the dining-room.
Noise: We live in a small scenic village in a National Park. Regrettably, some of our previous guests have been noisy, resulting in complaints. Therefore we have had to make some rules, and if our neighbours are still disturbed, then the individuals, or group, will have to be asked to leave, forfeiting their booking payment. Please ensure that the windows and doors are shut after 11pm. When a large group is gathered together, the sound of laughing and singing can be extremely loud to those outside! Remember too that groups of people returning home can easily disturb other's peace!
Behaviour: Most local people pride themselves on their hospitality. Therefore we ask that groups behave according to universal rules of behaviour. Please do not go out after 11pm unless it is necessary, and then never in groups of more than 4. Please do not walk on, or throw rubbish onto other people's land, whether it is a private house or hotel. Please remember that dancing and loud music should only take place in the piano room, which has a small dance floor for this purpose. It is particularly bad manners to use the shop doorways as smoking shelters!
Layout: If removing furniture, kitchen
equipment etc., please ensure that it is not damaged, and that it should
be returned to the same layout on handover; if in doubt, see the pictures
provided.
Litter: Please ensure that all litter is
removed, not only from around the properties, but also from the village
and hills. This is a beautiful area, please don't spoil it for others.
5 What Happens If You Break Something?
Damage & Loss: Please tell us as soon as possible so the item may be repaired or replaced in time for the arrival of the next group wherever possible. Many people are under the misapprehension that properties like ours are insured against this type of damage. This is not true, and the main point is that we like to keep the house in good condition for other groups, with little time to clean between occupancies.
Games Tables: The table-tennis table at Nethy House is kept outside and when not in use must always be tied back against the wall as the wind can rise up very quickly in this area. Please take great care of the pool table, do not allow drinks, or other objects to be placed on it, nor allow any object to enter the holes, which clogs the mechanism. Any damage must be paid for, and, if the damage results in loss of use, we will add a sum for compensation, for both ourselves and any affected groups, during the period it is out of action.
Keys: Each person has a locker and key. Loss of keys and tags will incur a charge, as per price list.
Bedding: In the interest of hygiene, we have provided waterproof mattresses and ask that covers are always used for pillows and duvets. There will be a charge if this is not done.
6 What We Expect You To Clean?
Cleaning: We appreciate that you are here to follow activities other than housework, however, the size of the house means that if a simple cleaning regime is not followed, you would find yourself with a major job on leaving! This is an old house, and we love it! We hope that you will appreciate it's character and will wish to return to us one day. Whilst you are here, please treat it as your home and we will look forward to welcoming you back.
Recycling and Rubbish Disposal: We are a Green Tourism business and are trying to do what we can. Please note that both properties have two bins. One is for cans, bottles & plastics; the other is for all other rubbish except paper which can be taken to the paper bin behind the Community Centre. Paper may be carried round to the village recycling point 100 yards away. The bins are only collected, on demand, on a Thursday – so please ensure that all rubbish is flattened to avoid the additional energy waste resulting from unnecessary collections. If this is not sufficient, all excess waste may be disposed of at the local dump.
Equipment: Vacuum cleaners are provided on each floor, and Group Leaders must ensure that the bag is never allowed to be more than ½ full. A 'wet' cleaner is available for use in the showers, and Group Leaders should ensure that they are familiar with it's use.
7 Why Not Use This Roster?
