What You Have Said To Us?
"I just wanted to let you know that the level of service from your end was better than any other enquiries I had made" - (we cannot always provide this level of satisfaction, but we do try!)
If some of these things sound a little odd, you'll just have to visit to find out the story behind them!
Bjorn Vanderberghe, Group Leader Sint-Janscollege Poperinge: Many thanks to let me know last year there was a group interested in the hostel so we could get it, because I love your hostel and above all you're a great help... See you soon, many thanks.
Dekantsjugendbüros Freren & Nordhorn: This German group bought us a guest book, so we'll never forget them! They drank so much that once I took an order for 12 pints of whisky coke, but we saw no drunken behaviour! They also ordered 50 T-shirts and after searching high & low we tracked down XL & XXL shirts, had them printed and only sold 10 as they were still too small! The holiday in Nethy Bridge, Made us poor and made you rich. Every night you worked hard at the bar, Because we were so thirsty like a 'dromedar!'.
Bayreuth: We, a group of 49 people of YMCA (CVJM) Bayreuth had a real nice and blessed days at Nethy House. When we arrived and the summer came back we were very happy. We want to thank you very much for your EXTRAORDINARY SUPPORT and kind help whenever we needed it. We didn't find owners or a warden - BUT FRIENDS. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Student group of the Biochemical Society: This group were our first catering, breakfast only, and were great fun. They drew us a scientific diagram of the 'Regulation of Genes by Oxidative Stress in Health & Disease'. which has since proved most useful in our bar! There were comments in various languages many of which we cannot read, but one of our favourites was:'Sleeping on the bottom shelf did wonders for my back!'
Croydon Caving Club: The C3 Caballeros:
"There was an ex-major called
Dick, with humour incredibly quick,
but when wearing a pinny, he looks quite
a ninny, Or as some say, a complete gimboid.
Richard of Nethy gave battle
in vain, No more noise, just the pain
When New Year came He used his brain,
Lots of money spent, all his gain.
Stuck in the kitchen, cooking the food,
Too polite ever to be rude,
Good food, good cheer and lots of fine beer, Hip,
hip, Hooray, such a good dude."

Farnborough: 'The hospitality, food, sense of humour and unusual dice have
all made our recce a good one. You'll have to visit to see the dice!
'Twas
in the year nineteen and ninety four,
A remarkable happening happened, which
hadn't before.
A troupe of soldiers came to Nethy House door, Commanded by a medic! Not
since the war
Our Rodaway's genius shining the more!
Had such a thing happened, but then all saw,
For adventurous training he held
us all by the paw.
A small accident befell one of us-That's true-Colour Gill-no
not pink - transported us thru
As Sassenach words we now turn, Driving in
the rain.
Up ski lifts, blizzarded Lecht, Glencoe& Cairngorm -oo
But Raigmore returned him Thurs: As good as new.
To heights unparalled in
Scotland - och the noo-oo
We remember Richard & Trish's words - welcome!
and we'll come again (apols to Will McGonagall)
The
Blue Brigade:
Nethy Bridge is the place to be, Tranquillity, fresh
air and not far to ski,
The breakfast's brilliant, the dinner's great, If
you're trying to diet, you'll lose no weight.
Now Patricia's the doting wife,
Pleasing her guests is her life, Her husband Richard is a ninny,
6 foot 2,
eyes of blue, complete with pinny.
But who are we to criticise, These Sassenachs
that control our lives, We eat their meat, We
don't complain, But at 6 to
a room, we feel the strain.
Tomorrow is our final day, We'll eat our breakfast,
To help on our way,
We may return, but who can tell, But we'll leave in the
morning without a smell.
I believe that was a reference to my lecture about
leaving the house clean!
The Thursday Night Live
Group: This remarkable group of young people with disabilities from West
Lothian were doing their
Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. many were seriously
disabled, yet with their helpers they walked a distance each day.
Thanks very
much for your hospitality - well appreciated! The showers are brilliant!
Sirs,
Whilst we had a wibbly wobbly skip happy time, there are a few recommendations
1 The beds're too wide. The crack on 6c would suggest that it's still possible
for 2 people to cause structural damage
2 There was no Bible in the top drawer
3 The food is too rich, it made John's nose go big and red
4 Those going to
Aviemore for a bang should have the house's address stamped on their forehead
so the police can return them
Dundee University
Field Class: A memorable week with superb weather in the Northern Corries
and an insight into the local tourist industry. The welcome and support provided
by Nethy House enabled the trip to be successful academically and great fun socially.
Dunbar Grammar School are back again with some old hands and some new young ones.
Everything was brilliant although the Eccles had not arranged very good weather,
their food went down a treat as did (as always) their lively and positive company.
A German group left us this poem with apologies
to 'Sir Walter Scotch'!!
Dear Patricia and Richard,
Scotland
gives us everything we need,
Richard shows it to us at very high speed
We climb the biggest mountains very funny,
but Patricia at last, you are
a honey!
meistens auf ihre Verkehrten Handlungen und Hund Haltungen festgenagelt. Und dennoch;
ein schlecte Eigenschaft ist noch kein schlecte Mensch. Ein schlecte Tag ist noch
kein schlectes Leben.
We want to thank you for our great holiday we spent
in your beautiful country. With your aid we were able to
explore the Highlands
better than we expected - especially during the 2 day mountain hike. Thanks you
and
best wishes to you and your family.
City of Bristol College: - Observation: Is there a similarity between Richard
Eccles in Nethy Host mode and Basil Fawlty?
KJG Hemmerden: Dear Richard , Dear Patricia, We really enjoyed our stay here in Nethy Bridge? It was a marvellous time and we really appreciate your help and support, as well as your patience and your tips. We definitely want to come back.
Bridge Of Don Community and Education Centre
We have all had a brilliant time and have been most comfortable. We have all got
full tummies and squints
from trying to see the Smurfs in the 3D pictures.
Thank you very much. Can't wait to come back.
Group
Trossinger: Dear Patricia, Dear Richard,
Thanks you so much for being
so accommodating - I never thought that we would find such a place. I know everyone
had a top time and it even snowed for us! We had the time of our lives here in
Nethy Bridge - Nethy House is super - but the best are you two! Thanks for everything,
we'll miss you and we wish we could take you both back with us - lif at our school
would be so much more fun.

Dudelsackmusik.

for a wonderful time! We think that it's just impressive that you've been so motivated
to make our time at Nethy House very, very nice - it's not very often that you
find owners of houses who are really interested in the groups and their time -
we think you were great and we'll come back again& again &.

We
came in thin and we went out fat Patricia & Richard saw to that! But the thing
that impressed us by far, oh by far! Was the D-I-Y, self-service bar. A great
place to stay!

Dear Guestbook, we've had a fantastic time in the comfortable Nethy House.
We enjoyed sleeping on 'shelves' and eating Patricia's delicious meals.
We loved the tours through the Highlands and its impressive landscape. These
were completed by the funny comments of our lovely 'guide' Richard. Each
day ended up in cosy get-togethers. The interesting bar offered a lot of
entertainment. As you can see we had a great stay but we were a little bit
sad that we didn't meet Nessie. We thank our hosts for making this class-trip
that wonderful!
